Can I make it into University of Nevada, Las Vegas?
I reside in California in a public high school trying to get into UNLV for a hospitality management major. I have a 3.45 weighted GPA, a 1540 SAT score and a 25 on ACT. Do you think it is possible that I can get into UNLV? By the way, my status right now is "evaluation is in progress." Oh, I have extracurricular activities for volunteering at the City Hall for around 2 years, totaling to 117 hours. Also, I was just a general member (2x) for two clubs during the past four years. So it's pretty much just the volunteering hours as extracurricular activity.

If you don't, enroll at Southern Nevada Community College for 1 year and get your grades up.
2 :
Your SAT is mediocre, but your GPA is okay and your ACT is pretty good for UNLV. I think you stand a good shot at getting accepted as long as you had some good extracurriculars.

Where in Las Vegas, Nevada could I get a job at 14-15?
At the moment I am fourteen years of age and will be turning fifteen at the end of October. I am trying to find a job, but for every job I have looked at the minimum age is sixteen. I have not looked at a lot of Jobs but before I look at anymore I thought I would go on here and see if anyone had any suggestions. I will also be going to get a work permit soon. Other then that is there anything else I would need? Oh and one more thing, I am home schooled so after Summer is over am I still aloud to work the same hours? Thank you.

At such a young age you can do things like: Babysitting, pet sitting, car washing, lawn moving, paper delivering, and dog walking. You might be able to work in fast food restaurants too. Hope this helps.

go to Nevada DMV. Otherwise here is the info from that page. Driving Restrictions Passenger Restriction Young drivers may not transport any passenger under the age of 18, except for immediate family members, for the first six months after the license was issued. Penalties for violations include extending the restriction for six months or more and fines for repeated violations. Statewide Driving Curfew Drivers under 18 may not drive between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless they are traveling to or from a scheduled event such as school events or work. Law enforcement may ask for satisfactory evidence of the event. This applies to all drivers under the age of 18 until they turn 18. Local Curfew Laws Although local curfews are not related to driving, minors must know and obey the local laws. Las Vegas Strip and Downtown 9 p.m., unless accompanied by an adult. Elsewhere in Las Vegas 10 p.m. Sunday - Thursday Midnight on Friday and Saturday Las Vegas Metro Police (702) 229-3535 Reno Downtown Gaming District 9 p.m., unless accompanied by an adult. Elsewhere in Reno Midnight all weekdays Reno Police Department (775) 334-2677 Curfews in other Nevada cities vary. Call the local police department. Other Restrictions Nevada has a .02 blood alcohol limit for drivers under 21. Drivers can also be arrested for any detectable amount of a controlled or prohibited substance. Minor driver licenses can be suspended for any of the same reasons as adult licenses and also for non-driving alcohol/drug convictions, firearms violations or habitual truancy. See License Suspensions.

I took classes at JRP in Las Vegas before. I didn't have enough money to continue so after 2 years I stopped with JRP.
2 :
I was ion denver JRP. What ever you do not go here. It is a scam. They will take your money and not help with your career other than learning that there are scams out there
3 :
My two friends go there... I've heard rumors that it's a scam. They say they're not really sure, and they're being cautious just in case. But I'm not sure myself.
4 :
Do a google search. You should have no trouble arriving at the right conclusion.
5 :
JRP is a franchise. This means each company is individually owned, and has no oversight. Most are money-making scams. Oddly, the Better Business Bureau lists the Las Vegas JRP as being closed. If you do a BBB search for other states, you'll find myriad complaints--mostly for "failing to provide services as promised."
6 :
It's a Scam! Sorry!
7 :
check them out with your local Better Business Bureau and also at www.ripoffreport.com. some are decent but most aren't I do know from talking to talent agents that having JRP on your resume is NOT a particularly good thing. Many agents think that JRP is a joke. It used to be respected in the industry but now it mostly relies on past glories. Yes, there have been some well known people who have attended their schools in the last decade but if you'll notice these people never thank JRP for helping them get their start in acting. that alone speaks volumes.

General opinions on University of Nevada: Las Vegas?
I would like to go there, but I haven't found much about opinions on it. Good school, bad school? If you are/were a student, that would be amazing! (But if you aren't, I'd still like to hear from you!)

actually to determine good/bad school is hard. it depends on us if we get a high marks and good result it means that school is good but fr those who failed=bad school. but my cousin went there to study and now as i know he really have a good job- my opinion it's really gud school
2 :
Depends on what you plan to have as a major. UNLV is not a top tier school, but a good school. Not only the education, but the area you will live in.
3 :
Here is the lowdown on UNLV from a former student. If you plan to major in hotel administration, hospitality management, management, marketing, business, international business, finance, economics, math, accounting, business computer systems management, gaming, travel and tourism- this is the school for you!! If you are planning to major in social work, psychology, counseling, biology, chemistry, physics, pre-law, pre-med- you would be best served elsewhere because you will be taught by all graduate students and will not have any opportunity to get hands on training- e.g. research assistant, lab assistant, internships, etc. If you are planning to major in nutrition sciences this is a good school though because it prepares you for graduate level training and to become a registered dietitian.
4 :
I've lived in Las Vegas, and have gone to UNLV for 4 years. What Dorethy said above is true about the majors, so I'll give a little different type of information. Good or bad, UNLV is a school that doesn't get a lot of funding. In fact, right now, we're fighting a proposed 8% decrease in funding.... that means less scholarships, less teachers, less classes, less class sections... it hurts on ALL fronts. Construction here is a major problem. In Vegas, we do as "Las Vegans" do.... tear down and re-build. Projects are abundant on campus, and that's not changing any time soon. In the last 4 years I've been on campus, I've seen (MSU, WRIGHT, Desert, Rec Center, Urban, Parking, SciTech) 7 construction projects, those NOT including the road construction around campus. Traveling to school is a nightmare, and most of the students are commuters (living off campus) Also, Parking in a horrible issue that has not been resolved in over 5 years. There aren't enough spaces for students, and the construction of new buildings on parking lots doesn't help. On another note, people on campus are very apathetic. We have over 23,000 students, but when it came to student elections this year, only about 1000 voted at all. Partly because we feel our student government accomplishes nothing, but partly because our school doesn't a solid identity. With most people commuting to school, participation in clubs and drives is very disappointing. No one wants to stay longer at school if they have to drive back home, or to a job. So... UNLV is very much like a larger community college.. people come to classes, but don't stick around for much else. Any other info you would like to know, don't hesitate to ask. I'd be more than willing to help ya out.

I have lived in bay area all my life and I really want to move out and experience life on my own. I actually want to become a P.E teacher and I'm not too sure if USF a private school is worth that money. Plus I want a REAL college experience and I'm not too sure USF has that. Someone please confirm my assumptions.

I can not tell you about USF but UNLV could be a really fun school. You get the "real" college experience but you also get the Vegas experience on top of that. The P.E. teachers I had in school all came from UNLV even though I do not know of that program specifically. I would say cut the bay area ties and experience life. (Also Vegas offers many opportunities for people to get decent paying jobs without experience)

It'll take some work to find someone who's hiring, but try monster.com or the classfied ads in the review-journal. Also try places like pizza hut, chili's, or applebee's or even some of the major casinos. If you look hard enough, I'm sure somebody's gotta be hiring.
2 :
You should walk into some of your local restaurants between 3 and 5pm in the afternoon and ask if they're hiring. You might have to look at a lot of places to find one place that's hiring but they're more likely to remember you if you come in directly.
3 :
yeah you can try lowes as well the pay good and you can log onto any computer on the site which is awesome also you can make money from this website buy filling up free offers if you havent already know you should try it out because i like it just look at it if you dont like it then you wont lose anything the link will be on the of the blog http://economyhelp.blogspot.com/ hope i help and good luck

You'll need a workers permit, as this protects you from curfew. There are numerous federal, state and county guidelines that apply to the issuance of Work Permits for juveniles. Federal regulations supersede county ordinances or Nevada Revised Statutes. The most stringent guidelines are in effect for youths aged 14 and 15. Federal regulations were initiated under the Fair Labor Standards Act to prevent oppressive child labor. Juveniles 14 and 15 years of age cannot work during school hours and never before 7:00 a.m. or after 7:00 p.m. on a school day nor more than a total of 3 hours a day or 18 hours per week. The exception to this regulation is during the traditional schools summer months. June 1 st through Labor Day, 14 and 15 year old juveniles can work until 9:00 p.m. and up to but not more than 40 hours per week. Juveniles in this age group attending a school with a non-traditional schedule may work until 9:00 p.m., with a work week not to exceed 40 hours during non school weeks.

I am currently living in Las Vegas Nevada, and attending the High school Advanced Technologies Academy. I will be moving the Los Angeles within a few weeks, and will be living in South Pasadena. I also want to go to the school South Pasadena High School. Can i transfer mid way through the school year, and what do i need to transfer schools. I have never done something like this before, and this is also an out of state HS transfer. Help will be much appreciated. Thanks!

South Pasadena is a public school, and as long as you live in the district, you can attend the schools. With the elementary schools, if your neighborhood school was full, then they might put you into another school that had space, but since there is only one high school, you shouldn't have a problem. Your parents will need 3+ proofs of residency to register you for South Pas High. Since it is such a desirable school, they are very strict on who they admit. Also, they do not allow kids to live with relatives or family friends and attend South Pas schools unless there is an actual court ordered/approved guardianship. They will do home checks if there is anything questionable, and believe me, they do. (And the parents check up on things! It's a small town, everyone knows everyone else and is in their business. Since the parents raise a lot of money for the schools and there have been cutbacks due to the economy, they make it their business to make sure no one sneaks into their schools. But really, they're nice people, just protective.) The usual registration for fall admission of new students includes a pre-registration before the actual registration, because they do checks on all proofs of residency. Since you are entering mid-year, your parents will need to contact the registrar and she'll handle everything. You will need to be an actual resident and have the proof before your parents can register you, but they should be able to get that done in a day, if they go to register their car. The 3rd category (C) of proof is mostly hard to get the day you move, except for car registration and there is a DMV office in Pasadena. They are closed some Fridays so check. Your parents will need to bring their driver's licenses to their interview with the registrar in addition to the other proof. It will likely take the registrar a couple of days to check out all the paperwork your parents give her, and then you're in. South Pasadena school registration info: http://www.spusd.net/enrollment/new_students/high_school.jsp http://www.spusd.net/enrollment/district_enrollment_policies.jsp The kids are mostly very nice at South Pas. It has very good academics for a public school. Winter break is from Dec 20, with school starting back up on Jan 3. South Pasadena is only about 4 sq miles, and it's mostly a very safe community with nice people. There is plenty to do in the area, not much to do at night for kids, usually they hang out in Old Town Pasadena (a busy shopping street with a small outdoor mall, the Paseo), or go to one of the malls in Arcadia or Glendale. Good luck!

Government Representatives Las Vegas Nevada?
I was wondering who my government representatives were in my district? I'm looking for the recently elected officials such as U.S. Senators, U.S. House of Representatives, Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Controller, State Treasurer, State Senator, Assembly member, University Regent, County Commissioner, Clark County District Attorney, Mayor, City Council member, and Clark County School District Board of Trustees Member. How do I find all of this information? I've found some on www.nv.gov but I can't seem to find all of them. A direct link would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Biggest mistake of your young life. You don't care? Look, genius, when you're eighteen and UNEMPLOYABLE, DON'T have the nerve to ask for a state handout. Now get yourself to SCHOOL!

Don't drop out of HS. Well, unless you plan on working at McDonalds for the rest of your life making minimum wage, getting treated by rude customers and getting greasy food every day. You won't get hired in 90% of places. They require a minimum of HS diploma.

Henderson or Florida You can't compete with the huge Casinos in La's Vegas. Try Tampa ,Fl or St.Petersburg, Fl i lived there most of my life. Very nice upscale area.
2 :
Missy is right. Tampa has a big nightlife section called Ybor City with lots of people coming in from all over the west coast of Florida to enjoy night life so you have foot traffic. The casinos dominate in Nevada and you cannot compete. In Orlando, you have more of a family atmosphere and they're not taking their kids to a Hookah bar and there's tons of competition for the local crowds.

Just because someone tells you what they are ,will not be mean they are who they say ! Bearing that in mind ,I think Vegas is set to really move when the economy recovers.

I hope you already have a job lined up, as unemployment in greater LV is at or near the top in the country. If you don't have an employment agreement and are not independently wealthy, it wouldn't recommend it.
4 :
Henderson is a fine city. The problem is the county. The school system here is rated second from the bottom in the US. Crime is probably lower than most major cities however as the unemployment rises and Illegals keep coming crime is rising. There are no jobs to be had by a newcomer. Every time there is a job opening there are 100 well qualified applicants who already live here. Might want to read over the following webpage.

I've lived all over Las Vegas for the past 20 years. So I know the city pretty well. (New) Henderson, around Anthem and Seven Hills, is a pretty nice place to live. (Old Henderson is the exact opposite of New Henderson) Summerlin is also nice it's on the far North West side of Las Vegas, I like it over there a lot, but anywhere else is pretty much up in the air. I would stay away from North Las Vegas and the city. Crime is pretty much everywhere in Las Vegas/Henderson but it's a lot less "visible" in Henderson. Most of the crime comes from little shit high school kids doing stupid stuff to pass the time, like paintballing peoples houses for fun or getting drunk and crashing into walls or each other, seriously. It's pretty much the stereotypical suburb. The main schools in Henderson are pretty good up until High School. The main high school in (New) Henderson is Coronado. Coronado, academically, is the best school in Nevada but the drugs are EVERYWHERE in that school. It has a really bad rap for it's drug use. And the teachers are pretty much worthless because the kids complain to their "rich" parents and can get the teachers fired. Lake Las Vegas is great but it's pretty expensive to keep and maintain a house out there. But if you're just moving to Vegas your best bet is probably Henderson. It far enough away from the Strip and the police out there maintain a staus quo.
6 :
seriously i wouldnt recommend moving here. the only things you can do are drink, gamble and flip houses
7 :
I expect you know there are limited to no jobs. Unemployment is over 13%. The State, County and all cities have frozen hiring and laying off. Businesss close daily. Casinos are hurting as well, and those are minimum wage jobs with benefits. Henderson is nice, if in the Green Valley area. Boulder City, further away than Henderson is nice. There are very nice areas in North Las Vegas in the Centenial Hill area. Schools are ok; crime like LA.
8 :

It was known for basketball many years ago when Jerry Tarkanian was coach. As far as the academics, they are average. UNLV is best known for the Hotel Administration because of the tourist industry |

Pharmacy Major... in Las Vegas or anywhere in Nevada? I'm going to be a senior this coming fall in high school in Las Vegas, NV. Can anyone please help me with the information on universities and their courses to be a pharmacists? What courses should be taken? Which college/University? What is my best offer? Higher Education (University +) - 1 Answers Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions : 1 : I believe the University of Southern Nevada is your only choice for a PharmD program. Here's their website: http://www.usn.edu/pharmacy/ You'll need to take all the Science and Math (calculus) classes your high school offers, and do well in them (at least an A), plus an over average of 90% or better will get your foot in the door. If you take a look at USN's pre-requisite, they require college credits to be done first before you apply to the program. Just make sure you do well in the pre-req courses, score well on the PCAT and you should be good. All the best!! |

my driving permit in las vegas, nevada?
I just read the drivers hand book so i can get my permit on saturday. theres this one section that says i can get special privlages to drive to and from school under special circumstances.my fam goes to work really early and is hard to take me. does anyone know about this?

i don't think so with a permi....check with the MVD
2 :
Not in Vegas, baby! Probably can if you live on a farm where there's not bus service. But you have school buses here so the answer is NO
3 :
Special circumstances probably mean something like you being the only person in your household that can drive - like if a parent became unable to drive due to illness and needed your assistance to get to doctors appointments or the hospital. Or if you worked on a farm as the family business, you might get special permission. Just because your parents go to work early probably won't qualify - since you can always just take a bus, bicycle or walk. Although inconvenient, it isn't an emergency situation, so special circumstances won't apply to you.

Moving to Las Vegas Nevada and need some questions about the city answered.?
Moving to Las Vegas Nevada and need some questions about the city answered.?
Moving with 2 other of my friends to Las Vegas in August, we are all 22 and was wondering where the best places to live would be close to the strip (within 2 miles). Obviously Vegas is not a place to go to start a family and we have no plans on doing so in the near future, we will probably finish school out there eventually but can't transfer there for a year after we move there because of out of state tuition being so high. I know its hard to find a job anywhere in the U.S. right now but how hard is it in Las Vegas? What's the Pro's and Con's about Las Vegas (besides the obvious, crime, gambling, drug addictions)... im talking like spending money / not being able to find a job / weather. We live in Ohio right now to where the spring and summer is nice but winter sucks and Ohio is boring. Any information about apartments, jobs, weather, anything about Vegas will help. Thanks for the feedback, I live in a 4 bedroom (kinda shitty apartment) and we each pay a little over $500 a month, so over $2000 for the entire apartment, we are right on a campus though. Been looking for a job for awhile here but no one can find one so we are not knew to that. You've been in Las Vegas for a long time, has to be something good about it? But yeah we are looking to try and pay under $500 a month per person for a 3 bedroom.

The unemployment rate in Vegas is among the highest in the Nation. UNLV is a great school, but you won't find much work while you're going to school except fast food places and restaurants, if you're lucky. The weather here is pleasant in the spring, but the summers are Hot, Hot, Hot. Las Vegas is in the Desert you know. Tourism is way down and this town survives on tourists spending and losing money. I don't know what you pay for an apartment there where you live, but here you get what you pay for. Cheap rent ($350 to $500) equals run down and cheap apartment, more expensive ($550 to $950) better acomodations, more expensive yet ($1000 to $1500) best apartments in Vegas. Don't know what you're going to school for, but a lot of people go to school here to get into the hospitality industry, which survives on tourism.

I moved here from Ohio over three years ago and I agree that the weather alone made the move worth it. However the job situation is worse here. They are still laying off all over the place. When a job opens there are 100 well qualified applicants lined up. The job fairs out here are a joke, usually trade schools telling lies how their schooling provides training for waiting jobs that don't exist. The rent situation won't be a problem. You could rent a five bedroom house for that amount of money here. With all the foreclosure and shortsates, investors bought up the properties dirt cheap but are finding no quality renters to rent them so they have to drop the prices. Rule of thumb is the further from the strip the better it is. Stay outside the 215 if possible. Better read over the following web page. Good luck.

I read the answers given and I agree with most of them. The only suggestion I can give is that you don't want to be 2 miles from the strip. I understand that you want to be close to the action, but the radius all around the strip is such a bad area. If you have a car you can get from one end of Vegas to the other in 30 minutes or less. If you won't have a car we have buses that go all around town and are easy to get to the strip. It will be much cheaper rent wise to move off the strip and you will get a lot better and bigger house or apt. for your buck. A lot of restaurants are hiring servers, if any of you have any experience doing that. But yet again they are all off the strip for those jobs. The weather is nice here, compared to Ohio (I was born in Ohio and raised in Vegas), but it is hot in the summer. Over all I do love it here. And I am raising a family here (2 kids, 1 boy who is 11 great kids and a girl who is almost 2) it is possible if you know where to do it at in town. Vegas is like every other city. We have our bad parts of town and good parts of town. Stay away from living near the strip, that would be a bad part of town to live in LOL. Good luck to you. And BTW for what you are paying in rent right now I am sure you won't have any problem finding a place for that or even less.
6 :
From what I hear, Vegas will soon be BYOW (bring your own water). So plan on being thirsty most of the time.

it shouldnt be that hard to fine a place for under 2000 a month, but trust me, you dont want to be that close to the strip. take a look at craigslist in vegas you can probably find a decent 3 br house for that, but jobs being what they are you might want to go alot cheaper until you all have stable jobs. i lived in Riverbend Village Apartments on flamingo and spencer, its not a great area but there are far worse and for the most part the property itself is pretty quiet. it is a straight shot to the strip, just right up flamingo and you are there. there you can expect to pay less than $1000 for a 3br the # is 702-737-0488

I received my BA in Psychology from UNLV in May 2008, and am now working towards my PhD in Physics. I personally think it's a great school - in my years of studying there, I only met one professor who’s class I did not really enjoy, and it was mostly because it was an online class and he was very unfamiliar with computers. The professors are very nice, the counselors are generally willing to discuss your academic goals at a length, and they offer a huge variety of programs – you can pretty much study for anything at that school. There's also a great mixture of people at UNLV - it has fraternities and sororities, but it’s not dominated by the typical college-type culture. There are a lot of people seeking degrees who work full time and have kids – it makes for a really interesting classroom dynamic. I love the school and plan to finish my PhD there. My only complaint would be that the campus, in some areas, isn’t aesthetically pleasing, but the new buildings are very nice and the quality of the education is more important than the façade of the buildings. Good luck :) Hope this helps.

UNLV- University of Nevada, Las Vegas?
I go to a private school right now. I am a freshman and i want to start looking at college's. The university of Nevada, Las Vegas came to my attention. Do they have good acedemics? I want to study law. Also i want to play soccer in college i made my varsity team this year as a freshman and its a very skilled team and im on a very skilled club team. Also i go to nationals for futsal. So that leads to my other question, how good is there soccer? Division? If this all is good do you know if they have any soccer camps over the summer so i have a chance to meet the coach? Whats the students average highschool gpa??? Cheers! Tanner J. basically to sum it up here are my questions.. 1) what division soccer do they have? 2) is it a good school acedemic wise? *im not talking about like a top 50 but just like an average school 3) do they have a soccer camp 15 year olds can attend to meet the coach and such? 4) do they have a nice campus?

Hoping someone who lives in these areas will have some good things to say about the areas. We have a young child that will be in school but would like to move from the harsh winters and it is also very expensive here in CT.

I live in California, but my father-in-law lives in Fountain Hills Arizona (not far from Phoenix). Winters will definitely be milder than CT. Snow is rare in the Phoenix area. At most, you will see an inch or two. Summers can be extremely hot. Temps can reach 120 degrees easily, but normally the highs hang around 90-100 degrees most days. The thing I had trouble getting used to though is the hot evenings. In CA in the summer, it can be 100 degrees in the day, but by nightfall, it's cooled at least 20 degrees. In AZ, it can still be 100 degrees at 10pm. I was there a couple years ago on July 4th, and the heat was unbearable! As far as children, I believe Phoenix is a nice place to raise them. There are a lot of nice parks and plenty of family-friendly city events, especially during the holidays. Crime is relatively low, but as in all large cities, it does occur to some extent. I I have never seen anyone carrying a gun around, but I've heard that guns may be carried in the open, as long as they are in a holster. It is also acceptable to have a gun in your car if it is not concealed.
3 :
choose arizona...all vegas has is the strip, the rest of the city isn't nice at all and especially with a young child, phoenix has so many more suburbs with great school districts to choose from.
4 :
I think Phoenix is the way to go. I lived there with my wife and daughter a few years ago. We loved it. There is so much to do in and around Phx for kids and adults. Just look into school systems. I would not have my kids go to Phx schools, but the suburban schools are pretty good. The nice thing is you can choose what school you want your child to go to even if it isn't the closest. That was the case with our daughter. We had to drive her there, but the school was better than the one nearer to our house. If you do decide to move, enjoy the weather and Good Luck!

I'm graduating from UNLV this year, and no, I"m sorry, we don't have a pharmology major. But it's alright, because it doesn't really matter what you do in your undergrad to get into a Pharmacy school. My friend is taking the Biology - Pre-professional track, which is a good "catch-all" for all those people who which to go on to dental, vet, medical schools too. So... that would be my best suggestion for becoming prepared for Pharmacy school. If you have any questions about UNLV, You can message me. I've been there for 4 years, and I'm graduating with a B.S in Biotechnology. So I'm familiar with the science fields very well.... Good luck

Not enough to support yourself if your thinking about dropping out. Even if you are not attending school, child labor laws would still apply. Im not sure what they are in Nevada but probably not more than 20 hours a week. And for anything particularly lucrative you might have to be bonded which in Nevada you must be at least 17 to do. Noe if your thinking about a part time job while you go to school, your grades wont really matter. However.. If it is not absolutely nessecary for you to get a part time job maybe it would be better to put that time to studying and aide from a tutor.

If it were me, I'd go to the public school's website for their standards for 2nd grade. Then I would create a curriculum using their standards as a guideline. The library has books, video, dvds, audio and cd roms. You can also find loads of free resources online. You will find your sons learning style and can adapt your teaching style so you can spend your time more efficiently. Creating a curriculum takes time but saves so much money that it is well worth it.

There are many different types of Christian based curriculum. But there are several free online charter schools there as well that have excellent curriculum. Using an online charter can make things much easier for you. I have tried so many different kinds and I believe K12 is the best. Many online charter schools are popping up all over. Many of them are now using k12 products. k12 schoolsare good for many reasons. Each student is given a placement test and then given individualized curriculum based on his or her individual needs. With the help of online charter schools today, homeschooling can be much easier than it used to be. They provide you with everything you need, a computer, a printer, books, supplies, and teachers that you can both email and call for help and assistance. This is free and there are no charges. Online schools are definitely becoming a way of the future for the children in generations to come. Going to an online school is no different than going to a traditional public school or a private school. They graduate with a real diploma the same as any school. My son graduated from an online charter school and now attends a private university (University Of Dayton) with scholarships. They will also help you with making sure that all state required tests are done yearly and proficiencies are completed for graduation.

A Beka is commonly used in private schools and is very popular among homeschoolers. Sonlight is very good--you can adapt more the work to his level than you could with A Beka. But you could also develop your own program tailored to him, which would maintain his interest and love for learning more (especially more than A Beka, imo). Unit studies might be a good approach with him.

Sonlight, Sonlight, Sonlight And they have an amazing return offer if it's not a good fit. We've use Sonlight for the past 5 years and love it! Your son will be challenged, you will both love all the great books and you will have great memories together! We use Abeka which is Christian based and is considered a year above grade level of most public schools. We focus on math, phonics and language arts and we have really enjoyed it. We do our own thing for history and science. I would suggest finding out your child's learning style. How does he best receive and process information? Base your search for curriculum on that. Here is some information on learning styles: http://www.successful-homeschooling.com/learning-styles.html Here is some information on different ways to homeschool, along with some popular curriculum options: http://www.successful-homeschooling.com/homeschooling-methods.html
I have recently decided to homeschool my 7 year old son. He completed first grade at a local Christian private school (where I taught Pre-K) and we are now ready for a change for several reasons. He is high academic and loves learning! Any curriculum ideas? Would prefer Chrisitan based and challenging. Thanks!! Christian*

University of Nevada, Las Vegas?
University of Nevada, Las Vegas?
Since I was a freshman in high school I've been looking at colleges around the country. I like Universities such as University of Oregon, Oregon State, UC Davis, University of Washington, Seattle. But, being from Nevada out of state tuition is just too expensive, so i have to stay in Nevada. So i was just curious about UNLV. What is Las Vegas like and is it a serious acedemic school? Is it a huge party school? How does it compare to the schools I listed above? What are the people like? What i like about the schools above are all the people are very nice and smart.

Alright, I'm just the person from you... I go to UNLV right now, finishing up my senior year this year. I choose to go to UNLV for the same reason you are... because it's cheaper, and in the end, because I want to get a Ph.D, doing undergrad here is just a stepping stone to get into a graduate program. Besides going to UNLV's website, I'll tell you as much as I can. First off, hopefully you'll get the Millennium Scholarship... because that itself will pay for close to 1/3 of your tuition... it's what A LOT of my friends who go there have. Las Vegas is a great city, but the part of town UNLV is in, well.. .it's run down. The city has been "planning" on creating a more 'student-orientated' atmosphere around the school, just... nothing has been done so far. Depending on your major, UNLV varies. It's fast becoming a good Business & Management Adminstration School, just because we're in a city that REALLY needs that sort of major. We're decent in the arts & humanities majors, but Science is just plain pitiful. Not enough teachers, aging facilities, and well... no money. Compared to ALL the other colleges you listed, UNLV is overall lower than all of them, as rankings go.... But for a specific major, things may fluctuate. As far as it being a "serious acedemic" school??/ Pshh... fat chance... most people are there for the same reason... Needed an education, it's cheap, and hopefully might be a stepping stone for grad school. I'll tell you that it's normal in the sense of Parties.... There are a few big ones, and we have this thing called "Rebelpaloza" where we have a big outdoor concert. People here are just trying to make it here.... we try to do our best with what we've got, but we know when to relax, and just chill... to not over-stress the things we cannot control. If you have any more questions... you can email.... theviolet41 "at" Yahoo.com

THIS ANSWER IS FOR YOUR CAL STATE ANSWER THAT IS NOW NOT AVAILABLE: I am a student here at CSUMB, you must be in high school since the college is just now starting but the school is great for class sizes, offers a great number of majors and minors, im studing international buisness which you cant find in all schools in the state. the school has a brand new 3 story library opening next year and is quite modern, new buildings are all over and a new shopping center down the street with stores such as REI. the weather is nice with fog occasionally since its more in the middle of the bay since its just north of monterey. Monterey is a great town ive been coming here for years on vacations and its not the party town like chico and has some old town feels. great beach and lots of it. good surfing, great seafood, go to hulas. aquarium is always good since students get major discounts and are eligible for resident free days. The people in this area are as follows, the closer to carmel you are the richer they become. therefore the more stuck up they are. but there are good people here. What i really like about the school is the location, class size, school size, dorms are big compared to others and have bathrooms in each one. If you want a nice laid back lifestyle and a school that is just as affordable as any other csu, actually maybe cheaper. Id say yes! later.

Las Vegas NEVADA Shot Vaccinations?
Las Vegas NEVADA Shot Vaccinations?
Does anyone know where I can take my son for his vaccinations in Las VEgas Nevada.. He is one shot behind and I have to have it done before he can go back to school. I do not have Ins. at the moment. I would really like to NOT have to take him to the Health clinic to have this done. With the flu and the h1n1 going around I don't want to have to sit there all day and expose him to that. I know there are places in town that will do it for 25-35 dollars. I am just not sure where. PLEASE does anyone know of any place I can take him?? THANK YOU!!!

Well my layman's opinion is it is a pretty crappy school, but I really have nothing besides heresay to back that up.
2 :
I'm past the college age now but have always heard very good things about UNLV. Just because it's located in a town of casinos doesn't mean the school itself is bad!
3 :
well its repuatible and i mean there in the sweet 16 thats always good
4 :
It is a very good school and Las Vegas is a wonderful city with the largest growing population in about the last ten years in the US. This is one of the best cities in the US
5 :
UNLV is a great school w/ a good rep. It's certainly not looked at like a joke, I'd be stoked to get in there.
6 :
UNLV has one of the top rated Hotel/Hospitality departments in the U.S. UNLV is also affordable. People that have told you its a joke have no idea what they are talking about, and I hope it wasnt a LV local. I am a proud UNLV graduate.
7 :
Ranked number one in the world for anyone wanting a career in hotel/restaurant management. Very good school overall.
8 :
It's funny you grouped Penn State in with your two Ivy League schools. Penn State isn't even a shadow of ANY Ivy League school.
9 :
It won't be a joke. Most state schools (unless you're in Florida, which accept pretty much anyone who applies without discrimination) are pretty reputable.
10 :
It's an amazing school. check out this website for a full story and review: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UNLV And it can't be a bad school when its singapore campus is located in the national singapore library, a building that is the equivalent to the US library of congress.
11 :
It is a U like any other. Academics taken seriously and your degree would be respected. It is always more what you take from the institution that matters more than the institution as is.
12 :
as an out of state unlv student i would like to say that the university is a good school that happens to have a reputation for the hotel college because of the location academics are taken seriously even though we are located in an adult tourist center unlv is like any state university with the academic side as well as the entertainment side many concerts and sporting events take place at the thomas and mack center like the rodeo, nba all star game, and the mountain west conference games unlv may not have a great football team but we are proud of our basketball team the school has many students from various countries and states so how can the school be a joke? depending on your major depends on whether unlv is the right school for you but you should not judge something without proper research

UNLV is considered just another one of those middling schools. Not all that prestigious, but not crap either. It's a legit school so no one will think your masters degree will be a joke (that's usually reserved for online schools). However, unless your masters degree is in a program that UNLV is especially known for in the industry, you'll just get the regular respect of having finished a masters. None of the extra prestige at having done it at a famous school like Harvard. As long as you are in Nevada, and particularly Vegas, UNLV will have some prestige since it's the "big" school in town. It's an interesting phenomenon I've noticed about fairly isolated cities. If you go to the "big" school in town, then your school gets more prestige than it would if you were in another town with "bigger" schools around. Same thing happens up in Reno. Going to UN Reno is pretty respected by locals until you cross the CA border and run into UC Davis' sphere of influence.
2 :
Their law school is ranked 82nd which is pretty high. They are definitely no joke. I would be afraid I wouldn't be getting any work done though living in Sin City.

Depends what you're looking for. I've visited both, and if it were my choice, I'd pick San Diego every time. In fact, if I had to pick any one city I've visited, it would be San Diego. It's a very pleasant, relaxed, open and clean-looking city, from what I can tell.

10 :
San Diego. Las Vegas is full of tourists.
11 :
san diego if you like the sun and are sort of a calm person las vegas if your wild and crazy
12 :
Well, the one opinion I have is if your a big gambler stay away from vegas....would be terrible to lose ya rent on the tables!
13 :
San Diego
14 :
San Diego, Cali Come on man.
15 :
Living in a tourist city isn't fun, I know I live in one. go to CA
16 :
im in san diego right now. its expensive man. seriously. like really expensive. that being said, school here is great, but work is sparse. if you find a good job, hold on tight! i hear its cheaper to live in the outskirts of las vegas...
17 :
DEFINATELY DEFINATELY SAN DIEGO it may be expensive but its worth it we have everything here :)
18 :
Nevada every thing else is too bif of a city (and california is supposed to fall off the earth if a bad earth quake hits) DINT GO TO CALI
19 :
L.A. is more bettre we got all the stars up in here
20 :
San Diego. Salary is lower in Las Vegas not to mention that weather is extremely hot in summer and extremely cold in winter. San Diego is accessible to L.A.
21 :
You should move to wherever your heart takes you. Listen to your heart when it's calling for you. Listen to your heart, there's nothing else you can do.
22 :
if you're using yahoo answers to determine where you should live, you're not responsible enough to be living on your own but san diego all the way...
23 :
San Diego. Trust me i love this place i also live there. =) Las vegas gets kinda boring after awhile
24 :
i would recommend moving to San Diego, Cali. its better because of the weather and besides you have the beach really close LA really close by, and if you ever want to go to Vegas its also a relatively short trip !
25 :
Depends what you're looking for. I've visited both, and if it were my choice, I'd pick San Diego every time. In fact, if I had to pick any one city I've visited, it would be San Diego. It's a very pleasant, relaxed, open and clean-looking city, from what I can tell.
26 :
san diego. las vegas isnt very cool in the day when all the lights are off and everyones almost sober
27 :
San Diego is good. I live here. Nice place to learn how to play doctor. ~cries~
28 :
las vegas nevada i lived there its the bomb and lots of jobs i am going back
29 :
Defiantly not California, unless you want to go to sleep and wake up in a fire. Or earthquake, NO, maybe you could look up stuff about San Diego, Las Vegas and Nevada
30 :
SD. Way better weather and less sinful distractions. Although Vegas would be a freakin' blast if you're not too serious about school.
31 :
San Diego because the weather is awesome and there aren't as many dumps.
32 :
Ummm.. you will be living where the military tells you-lol

If you run out of other options there's the Budget Suites. I'd recommend staying away from the one on Tropicana. There's one on Rancho by the Texas Station casino.
3 :
for your safety and comfort would go with an extended stay courtyard at marriott for example. just put extended stay in your browser with las vegas or henderson and you can get the locaitons and addresses.

Eons ago, when i was 14 I got my first job through the city of Los Angeles summer job program, perhaps the city of Las Vegas has a similar program. Also you'll need a work permit. Here's the link to where to get one: http://www.accessclarkcounty.com/depts/juvenile_justice_services/Pages/wrk_permits.aspx This page has all the requirements and hours you would be allowed to work, etc. I would get the permit, then just start filling out applications. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Why would/do you want to live in Las vegas, Nevada?
Why would/do you want to live in Las vegas, Nevada?
Hi, I just saw that las vegas was one of the most searched places to live on yahoo.com (or something like that). I'm just wanted an idea of how old you are and why you want to move to las vegas? I'm 15 and its really not that exiciting (for me at least not being the drinking age) sence they got rid of Wet 'N Wild because a freeway company bought the land. Most of the henderson area has a lot of drug influences on kids too (I live in the henderson area so I'm not sure about others). Its not the most safe place to ride a bike to and from places. But if your are moving down here Green Valley High School is one of the best!

Hi. I'm 15 years old too. I live in Malibu, California (in Los Angeles County) and I've visited Las Vegas once at the Bellagio Hotel. To have fun, I'm guessing you have to be 21...my parents went there and played poker or whatever in the casinos and it was boring for me since I couldn't really do anything...

I'm 53 and retired. I love the weather and unless you're dead...there's something in Vegas for you.
