I have a California driver's license and was cited for going 25mph in a 15mph school zone. School zones are apparently 15mph in Las Vegas. Also, would it be in my best interests to hire a lawyer to change this speeding ticket to a parking ticket? I do not know how points on a license would transfer over from Nevada to California. Thank you for your help in advance!

you would spend more money paying a lawyer then on the ticket i would go to court and since you are from California see if you can bring proof the speed Limitt in a school zone is 25 so you presume it was the same in Nevada, now you might get off the judge might lower the fine ,it couldn't hurt to try and if you are lucky the officer may not show up as for points I'm not sure

Ignorance of the law is NO defence. If you try to use it, then you open up Pandora's Box about other possible illegalities. Such disregard for speeding limits in a school zone are not tolerated in Nevada. As a minimum, you can kiss goodbye to your license for a while. If you try to waste the court's time with your ignorance plea, then jail becomes increasingly likely. As for a lawyer; well if you want to waste your money, that's your business. But a waste it certainly will be!
