UNLV- University Of Nevada, Las Vegas?
I go to a private school right now. I am a freshman and i want to start looking at college's. The university of Nevada, Las Vegas came to my attention. Do they have good acedemics? I want to study law. Also i want to play soccer in college i made my varsity team this year as a freshman and its a very skilled team and im on a very skilled club team. Sorry but UNLV is NOT known for soccer or football or other sports. It was known for basketball many years ago when Jerry Tarkanian was coach. As far as the academics, they are average. UNLV is best known for the Hotel Administration because of the tourist industry

Pharmacy Major... in Las Vegas or anywhere in Nevada?
I'm going to be a senior this coming fall in high school in Las Vegas, NV. Can anyone please help me with the information on universities and their courses to be a pharmacists? What courses should be taken? Which college/University? What is my best offer?

I believe the University of Southern Nevada is your only choice for a PharmD program. Here's their website: http://www.usn.edu/pharmacy/ You'll need to take all the Science and Math (calculus) classes your high school offers, and do well in them (at least an A), plus an over average of 90% or better will get your foot in the door. If you take a look at USN's pre-requisite, they require college credits to be done first before you apply to the program. Just make sure you do well in the pre-req courses, score well on the PCAT and you should be good. All the best!!

i don't think so with a permi....check with the MVD
2 :
Not in Vegas, baby! Probably can if you live on a farm where there's not bus service. But you have school buses here so the answer is NO
3 :
Special circumstances probably mean something like you being the only person in your household that can drive - like if a parent became unable to drive due to illness and needed your assistance to get to doctors appointments or the hospital. Or if you worked on a farm as the family business, you might get special permission. Just because your parents go to work early probably won't qualify - since you can always just take a bus, bicycle or walk. Although inconvenient, it isn't an emergency situation, so special circumstances won't apply to you.

Moving to Las Vegas Nevada and need some questions about the city answered.?

Moving to Las Vegas Nevada and need some questions about the city answered.?
Moving with 2 other of my friends to Las Vegas in August, we are all 22 and was wondering where the best places to live would be close to the strip (within 2 miles). Obviously Vegas is not a place to go to start a family and we have no plans on doing so in the near future, we will probably finish school out there eventually but can't transfer there for a year after we move there because of out of state tuition being so high. I know its hard to find a job anywhere in the U.S. right now but how hard is it in Las Vegas? What's the Pro's and Con's about Las Vegas (besides the obvious, crime, gambling, drug addictions)... im talking like spending money / not being able to find a job / weather. We live in Ohio right now to where the spring and summer is nice but winter sucks and Ohio is boring. Any information about apartments, jobs, weather, anything about Vegas will help. Thanks for the feedback, I live in a 4 bedroom (kinda shitty apartment) and we each pay a little over $500 a month, so over $2000 for the entire apartment, we are right on a campus though. Been looking for a job for awhile here but no one can find one so we are not knew to that. You've been in Las Vegas for a long time, has to be something good about it? But yeah we are looking to try and pay under $500 a month per person for a 3 bedroom.

vegas is vegas what you see in the movies thats what goes down! mobs gangs bullets n shit, its riskey buisness only the elite can survive, you have been warned this message will self destruct in 5 seconds...
2 :
The unemployment rate in Vegas is among the highest in the Nation. UNLV is a great school, but you won't find much work while you're going to school except fast food places and restaurants, if you're lucky. The weather here is pleasant in the spring, but the summers are Hot, Hot, Hot. Las Vegas is in the Desert you know. Tourism is way down and this town survives on tourists spending and losing money. I don't know what you pay for an apartment there where you live, but here you get what you pay for. Cheap rent ($350 to $500) equals run down and cheap apartment, more expensive ($550 to $950) better acomodations, more expensive yet ($1000 to $1500) best apartments in Vegas. Don't know what you're going to school for, but a lot of people go to school here to get into the hospitality industry, which survives on tourism.
3 :
Check this site out http://www.movetolasvegas.com This website should be able to answer all your questions. Be sure to check the discussion boards, , for answers to many questions about moving to Las Vegas.
4 :
I moved here from Ohio over three years ago and I agree that the weather alone made the move worth it. However the job situation is worse here. They are still laying off all over the place. When a job opens there are 100 well qualified applicants lined up. The job fairs out here are a joke, usually trade schools telling lies how their schooling provides training for waiting jobs that don't exist. The rent situation won't be a problem. You could rent a five bedroom house for that amount of money here. With all the foreclosure and shortsates, investors bought up the properties dirt cheap but are finding no quality renters to rent them so they have to drop the prices. Rule of thumb is the further from the strip the better it is. Stay outside the 215 if possible. Better read over the following web page. Good luck.
5 :
I read the answers given and I agree with most of them. The only suggestion I can give is that you don't want to be 2 miles from the strip. I understand that you want to be close to the action, but the radius all around the strip is such a bad area. If you have a car you can get from one end of Vegas to the other in 30 minutes or less. If you won't have a car we have buses that go all around town and are easy to get to the strip. It will be much cheaper rent wise to move off the strip and you will get a lot better and bigger house or apt. for your buck. A lot of restaurants are hiring servers, if any of you have any experience doing that. But yet again they are all off the strip for those jobs. The weather is nice here, compared to Ohio (I was born in Ohio and raised in Vegas), but it is hot in the summer. Over all I do love it here. And I am raising a family here (2 kids, 1 boy who is 11 great kids and a girl who is almost 2) it is possible if you know where to do it at in town. Vegas is like every other city. We have our bad parts of town and good parts of town. Stay away from living near the strip, that would be a bad part of town to live in LOL. Good luck to you. And BTW for what you are paying in rent right now I am sure you won't have any problem finding a place for that or even less.
6 :
From what I hear, Vegas will soon be BYOW (bring your own water). So plan on being thirsty most of the time.
7 :
it shouldnt be that hard to fine a place for under 2000 a month, but trust me, you dont want to be that close to the strip. take a look at craigslist in vegas you can probably find a decent 3 br house for that, but jobs being what they are you might want to go alot cheaper until you all have stable jobs. i lived in Riverbend Village Apartments on flamingo and spencer, its not a great area but there are far worse and for the most part the property itself is pretty quiet. it is a straight shot to the strip, just right up flamingo and you are there. there you can expect to pay less than $1000 for a 3br the # is 702-737-0488

I received my BA in Psychology from UNLV in May 2008, and am now working towards my PhD in Physics. I personally think it's a great school - in my years of studying there, I only met one professor who’s class I did not really enjoy, and it was mostly because it was an online class and he was very unfamiliar with computers. The professors are very nice, the counselors are generally willing to discuss your academic goals at a length, and they offer a huge variety of programs – you can pretty much study for anything at that school. There's also a great mixture of people at UNLV - it has fraternities and sororities, but it’s not dominated by the typical college-type culture. There are a lot of people seeking degrees who work full time and have kids – it makes for a really interesting classroom dynamic. I love the school and plan to finish my PhD there. My only complaint would be that the campus, in some areas, isn’t aesthetically pleasing, but the new buildings are very nice and the quality of the education is more important than the façade of the buildings. Good luck :) Hope this helps.

Hoping someone who lives in these areas will have some good things to say about the areas. We have a young child that will be in school but would like to move from the harsh winters and it is also very expensive here in CT.

If your liberal and anti gun stay where your at. We have way to many moving into Arizona who want to make Arizona like where they left. Most wanting to change AZ come from CA the East Coast and Illinois

I live in California, but my father-in-law lives in Fountain Hills Arizona (not far from Phoenix). Winters will definitely be milder than CT. Snow is rare in the Phoenix area. At most, you will see an inch or two. Summers can be extremely hot. Temps can reach 120 degrees easily, but normally the highs hang around 90-100 degrees most days. The thing I had trouble getting used to though is the hot evenings. In CA in the summer, it can be 100 degrees in the day, but by nightfall, it's cooled at least 20 degrees. In AZ, it can still be 100 degrees at 10pm. I was there a couple years ago on July 4th, and the heat was unbearable! As far as children, I believe Phoenix is a nice place to raise them. There are a lot of nice parks and plenty of family-friendly city events, especially during the holidays. Crime is relatively low, but as in all large cities, it does occur to some extent. I I have never seen anyone carrying a gun around, but I've heard that guns may be carried in the open, as long as they are in a holster. It is also acceptable to have a gun in your car if it is not concealed.
3 :
choose arizona...all vegas has is the strip, the rest of the city isn't nice at all and especially with a young child, phoenix has so many more suburbs with great school districts to choose from.
4 :
I think Phoenix is the way to go. I lived there with my wife and daughter a few years ago. We loved it. There is so much to do in and around Phx for kids and adults. Just look into school systems. I would not have my kids go to Phx schools, but the suburban schools are pretty good. The nice thing is you can choose what school you want your child to go to even if it isn't the closest. That was the case with our daughter. We had to drive her there, but the school was better than the one nearer to our house. If you do decide to move, enjoy the weather and Good Luck!

I'm graduating from UNLV this year, and no, I"m sorry, we don't have a pharmology major. But it's alright, because it doesn't really matter what you do in your undergrad to get into a Pharmacy school. My friend is taking the Biology - Pre-professional track, which is a good "catch-all" for all those people who which to go on to dental, vet, medical schools too. So... that would be my best suggestion for becoming prepared for Pharmacy school. If you have any questions about UNLV, You can message me. I've been there for 4 years, and I'm graduating with a B.S in Biotechnology. So I'm familiar with the science fields very well.... Good luck

Not enough to support yourself if your thinking about dropping out. Even if you are not attending school, child labor laws would still apply. Im not sure what they are in Nevada but probably not more than 20 hours a week. And for anything particularly lucrative you might have to be bonded which in Nevada you must be at least 17 to do. Noe if your thinking about a part time job while you go to school, your grades wont really matter. However.. If it is not absolutely nessecary for you to get a part time job maybe it would be better to put that time to studying and aide from a tutor.

Las Vegas Nevada Homeschool Curriculum?

Las Vegas Nevada Homeschool Curriculum?
I have recently decided to homeschool my 7 year old son. He completed first grade at a local Christian private school (where I taught Pre-K) and we are now ready for a change for several reasons. He is high academic and loves learning! Any curriculum ideas? Would prefer Chrisitan based and challenging. Thanks!! Christian*

I don't really understand your question. You want us to pic acurriculum idea for your kid? um..He's Barely In 1st grade.
2 :
If it were me, I'd go to the public school's website for their standards for 2nd grade. Then I would create a curriculum using their standards as a guideline. The library has books, video, dvds, audio and cd roms. You can also find loads of free resources online. You will find your sons learning style and can adapt your teaching style so you can spend your time more efficiently. Creating a curriculum takes time but saves so much money that it is well worth it.
3 :
There are many different types of Christian based curriculum. But there are several free online charter schools there as well that have excellent curriculum. Using an online charter can make things much easier for you. I have tried so many different kinds and I believe K12 is the best. Many online charter schools are popping up all over. Many of them are now using k12 products. k12 schoolsare good for many reasons. Each student is given a placement test and then given individualized curriculum based on his or her individual needs. With the help of online charter schools today, homeschooling can be much easier than it used to be. They provide you with everything you need, a computer, a printer, books, supplies, and teachers that you can both email and call for help and assistance. This is free and there are no charges. Online schools are definitely becoming a way of the future for the children in generations to come. Going to an online school is no different than going to a traditional public school or a private school. They graduate with a real diploma the same as any school. My son graduated from an online charter school and now attends a private university (University Of Dayton) with scholarships. They will also help you with making sure that all state required tests are done yearly and proficiencies are completed for graduation.
4 :
A Beka is commonly used in private schools and is very popular among homeschoolers. Sonlight is very good--you can adapt more the work to his level than you could with A Beka. But you could also develop your own program tailored to him, which would maintain his interest and love for learning more (especially more than A Beka, imo). Unit studies might be a good approach with him.
5 :
Sonlight, Sonlight, Sonlight And they have an amazing return offer if it's not a good fit. We've use Sonlight for the past 5 years and love it! Your son will be challenged, you will both love all the great books and you will have great memories together! Best of Luck to you Warm Regards, jana http://www.purehomeschooling.c... http://www.summerhouseliving.c...

We use Abeka which is Christian based and is considered a year above grade level of most public schools. We focus on math, phonics and language arts and we have really enjoyed it. We do our own thing for history and science. I would suggest finding out your child's learning style. How does he best receive and process information? Base your search for curriculum on that. Here is some information on learning styles: http://www.successful-homeschooling.com/learning-styles.html Here is some information on different ways to homeschool, along with some popular curriculum options: http://www.successful-homeschooling.com/homeschooling-methods.html

University of Nevada, Las Vegas?

University of Nevada, Las Vegas?
Since I was a freshman in high school I've been looking at colleges around the country. I like Universities such as University of Oregon, Oregon State, UC Davis, University of Washington, Seattle. But, being from Nevada out of state tuition is just too expensive, so i have to stay in Nevada. So i was just curious about UNLV. What is Las Vegas like and is it a serious acedemic school? Is it a huge party school? How does it compare to the schools I listed above? What are the people like? What i like about the schools above are all the people are very nice and smart.

Alright, I'm just the person from you... I go to UNLV right now, finishing up my senior year this year. I choose to go to UNLV for the same reason you are... because it's cheaper, and in the end, because I want to get a Ph.D, doing undergrad here is just a stepping stone to get into a graduate program. Besides going to UNLV's website, I'll tell you as much as I can. First off, hopefully you'll get the Millennium Scholarship... because that itself will pay for close to 1/3 of your tuition... it's what A LOT of my friends who go there have. Las Vegas is a great city, but the part of town UNLV is in, well.. .it's run down. The city has been "planning" on creating a more 'student-orientated' atmosphere around the school, just... nothing has been done so far. Depending on your major, UNLV varies. It's fast becoming a good Business & Management Adminstration School, just because we're in a city that REALLY needs that sort of major. We're decent in the arts & humanities majors, but Science is just plain pitiful. Not enough teachers, aging facilities, and well... no money. Compared to ALL the other colleges you listed, UNLV is overall lower than all of them, as rankings go.... But for a specific major, things may fluctuate. As far as it being a "serious acedemic" school??/ Pshh... fat chance... most people are there for the same reason... Needed an education, it's cheap, and hopefully might be a stepping stone for grad school. I'll tell you that it's normal in the sense of Parties.... There are a few big ones, and we have this thing called "Rebelpaloza" where we have a big outdoor concert. People here are just trying to make it here.... we try to do our best with what we've got, but we know when to relax, and just chill... to not over-stress the things we cannot control. If you have any more questions... you can email.... theviolet41 "at" Yahoo.com

THIS ANSWER IS FOR YOUR CAL STATE ANSWER THAT IS NOW NOT AVAILABLE: I am a student here at CSUMB, you must be in high school since the college is just now starting but the school is great for class sizes, offers a great number of majors and minors, im studing international buisness which you cant find in all schools in the state. the school has a brand new 3 story library opening next year and is quite modern, new buildings are all over and a new shopping center down the street with stores such as REI. the weather is nice with fog occasionally since its more in the middle of the bay since its just north of monterey. Monterey is a great town ive been coming here for years on vacations and its not the party town like chico and has some old town feels. great beach and lots of it. good surfing, great seafood, go to hulas. aquarium is always good since students get major discounts and are eligible for resident free days. The people in this area are as follows, the closer to carmel you are the richer they become. therefore the more stuck up they are. but there are good people here. What i really like about the school is the location, class size, school size, dorms are big compared to others and have bathrooms in each one. If you want a nice laid back lifestyle and a school that is just as affordable as any other csu, actually maybe cheaper. Id say yes! later.
